Hi there, I’m Sam K Ryan and welcome to my online studio. I’m a multidisciplinary creative specialising in illustration, graphic design, content creation, social media, eCommerce website design, branding and digital communications. Overall, my love for design and media making stems from being playful at heart. My work has developed from 10 years of exploration, research, strategy and dedication to my creative practice as an in-house and freelance professional.

SAM K RYAN: THE BRAND

Previously, I founded and managed an online fashion brand, transforming original hand-drawn textile illustrations into sleepwear and accessories. From concept through to execution, I directed each stage of the creative process, including textile design, product development, campaign visual direction, image editing, graphic design, and content creation. I wore multiple hats as I managed this brand and I learned an insurmountable amount about business operations and creating for my target audience.

TRUTH? SAM SLEPT ON THE JOB

Not really! But I did dream of becoming a creative designer and media maker from the very beginning.

Growing up in country Victoria, Australia as a frilly-sock-wearing child with an overactive imagination, I spent countless hours creating worlds through pictures and words. Long before home internet existed (the true Stone Age, depending on who you ask), I filled pages with illustrated characters, colourful concepts and imagined places that sparked a long-lasting love for storytelling and design. Starting my own brand was an extension of this desire to share my love of creativity with others.

Today, the Sam K Ryan sleepwear and accessories brand has found its place throughout the pages of my portfolio. I currently blend design thinking with storytelling to create thoughtful and engaging work for other businesses and brands.

With 10 years of experience across storytelling for fashion, retail, lifestyle businesses and a diversity of clients, I have learned that content and design should lead with emotion so as to resonate with your target audience on a personal level, evoking care and/or curiosity.

I’m an advocate for content that’s impactful and has the human touch and voice, with elements of strategy woven throughout. My work encompasses the hand-drawn or written, whether it is with brainstorming ideas, illustrating textile prints, graphic design motifs or marketing copy.
